Last year hundreds of people participated in our “30 Things” Meme. We’d love to hear from you again (even if you filled out the 30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know last year, you may have some new answers this year… it will be interesting to see which ones!).

This is a great way to blog about your invisible illness too. We may say, “no one understands!” but have we really given them the chance to? Fill this out, post it on your blog or on Facebook, etc. and then let your friends and family know. You may even be surprised to find out who you know who is living silently with his or her own invisible illness.

Be sure to comment below with the name of your blog and where it’s posted so we can come read it!

I'm very new to accepting my illness, hence the depression, anxiety, etc. But I am beyond thrilled to find others who suffer quietly.

  5. I'd like to share about my husband's silent illness. Two back surgeries and walks with a cane. He also has a bone disease, Paget's. The hardest thing we deal with is that people don't understand why my husband cannot come to church. He joined when I did (absent) and he supports the church. He is a godly man. However, they wonder, "Can't he just come to the picnic?" or "We hope and pray that he will come to church soon." They can't comprehend what it would be like for him to be there…feel claustrophobic because of his pain and nerves. Poor hearing, but noise of any kind disturbs him (we've tried h. aids)..a terrible buzzing in his ears. No one can see when the disease is active or the pain he endures.Only one or two people actually relate to him. (Thank God for Terry). They accept him as he is…good days or bad days. They don't press him to try new things or go into restaurants where he would be uncomfortable because of the music. I wish I could tell people to look "at his heart" and "listen to his wisdom"…and not think about his limitations. He has a lot to give and hardly anyone to give it to.

Because people do not understand why he can not attend, try replying to their comment with, Come by and visit with him. It would do him good to have company from the church. I am sure he would be glad to see you". And then maybe if they visited and talked with him they would have more understanding of his illness. And it may open up other doors and opportunities not realized before.
